Opportunities for helpful hackers during the Covid pandemic

While the coronavirus has caused unprecedented levels of disruption and harm to our communities, industries and economies, it’s also brought out the very best in people and we are seeking a plethora of amazing opportunities to get involved in supporting those in need.

We’ve brought together a few things that we’ve come across here, for while RHoK may not be happening this Winter, we have no doubt that many in our community are looking for ways to help and hopefully one of these might be just the right thing to keep you busy until RHoK returns in December!

  • Code4Covid - Formed as a Slack group on March 16th by a couple of ex-colleagues, the code4covid community now counts over 700 tech volunteers: The team's mission is to find technology solutions to help people during the COVID-19 crisis: we believe that technology can minimise the disruption caused by the pandemic and ultimately save lives.

  • #HackForBetterDays - Supported by HERE Technologies in Partnership with IBM (and many other global and local organisations) #HackForBetterDays, a fully online, 30-day virtual hackathon across Asia Pacific from 24 April to 24 May.

  • CODEVID-19 - the world’s first global pandemic hackathon, CODEVID-19 is bringing together problem-solvers to build solutions for managing, understanding, and surviving the COVID-19 pandemic. Anyone interested in helping out is invited to join the fight and get involved.

  • Digital Closeness Project - The Digital Closeness Project is a cross between a mass design thinking session and a hackathon. Participants, from anywhere in the world, come together to solve one of ten challenges related to social distancing – with a particular focus on alleviating some of more pressing problems including isolation, education, loneliness, the digital divide, disengaged youth and more.
