Three Changemakers. 20 Hackers. One Weekend.

In September, we hosted our first ever Virtual Hackathon and we are here to share the inside scoop with you. Keep reading to meet our 2021 Changemakers and learn how we helped them keep RHoKing.

We are always keen to talk to new or aspiring changemakers – people who are working hard to make a difference in their communities and the world, and see how RHoK might work with them to solve some of their problems and help get them the support they need.

If you are, or know someone who is, a passionate changemaker who might just be able to benefit from some RHoK goodness, we'd love to hear from you!

In this edition...

  • Meet our 2021 Changemakers and learn what brought them to the Virtual Hackathon

  • Some important updates from your Team @ RHoK πŸ˜’πŸ˜€

  • Join us! Support us! Pizza? us! (or just reach out to say hi!)

  • Jingle Bells (RHoK), and recharge over the holidays

THE 2021 LINE UP
Introducing our 2021 Changemakers

Thanks again to everyone involved in the 2021 Virtual Hackathon. We couldn't do what we do with out you! We can't wait until we can see you all back in person at our next Hackathon!

- The RHoK Team

A platform connecting the Eco-conscious with projects in need, re-homing tech for a good cause and a one-stop shop for fair trade products.

This year, RHoK Australia welcomed Eco Warriors 4 Change, WombleTech and returning Changemaker, Moral Fairground to the line up for our virtual Hackathon. Over the weekend, we got to learn about each NFP and their mission, and of course we interviewed them for you in case you missed out on attending.

IMPORTANT UPDATES

Farewell & Thank you Eddie!

Profile picture of Eddie wearing a black t-shirt with a red lanyard around his neck and a small blue grumpy octopus plushie on his shoulder

About 9 years ago, I stumbled upon a strange little initiative called RHoK – which led to an even stranger gathering of friendly randoms in a nook above a tyre shop, followed by a delightfully strange catch up with a unique individual called Gus who helped this new Changemaker begin his journey to his first RHoK hackathon. Lots of things could have stopped that journey at any of those points. (I do recall being almost too uncertain to wander up those stairs to that first Info night!) But there’s no doubt now that it was the right decision as it’s been an incredible journey and privilege to share the RHoK experience with so many amazing people, and to be given the opportunity to support and guide the mission of RHoK as it has continued to grow and adapt (dare I say, pivot?!) to meet the changing tech space, and the increasingly sophisticated needs of NFPs.

So, it’s been an incredibly hard decision to finally say goodbye to RHoK – a cause which has been so central to so much of my recent growth and career decisions. But with the increasing demand of some of those decisions I’ve acknowledged that RHoK needs a fresh set of legs to take it into its next incarnation. I’ve enjoyed every minute of my time at RHoK, both as Changemaker, Committee member, and Community Manager – and it’s shown me beyond any doubt that NFPs don’t have a monopoly on doing good. You guys get it, probably more than you realise, and the passion and open heartedness that are on display through the RHoK community are just what this world needs right now. I’m super excited to see what happens next – and encourage you all to grab any opportunity you can to help RHoK take those next steps, wherever they might lead!

Now that we're heading into the end of the year and exploring another COVID-normal summer, don't forget to check in with your RHoK friends and teammates: have a chat on Slack, organise a virtual lunch, or head outside and grab a walking coffee (or a picnic pizza). We've got lots of exciting things planned for next year, so enjoy your breaks, and Happy Hacking Holidays from the Team @ RHoK
